Wisdom Tooth

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to erupt and typically show up in the back corners of an adult's mouth between the ages of 16 and 25. This third set of teeth is not always successful and may press out other teeth when they emerge. They could also result in problems with your oral hygiene.

Since most people don't have enough room in their mouths for wisdom teeth or have other problems, extractions are common. The procedure is identical to that of other dental extractions. You will meet with your Brampton dentist at Bramdale Dental to go over the best course of action for your circumstances and why an extraction is necessary. The procedure will be carried out under sedation and a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort.

If your tooth has completely erupted, our Brampton dental office may be able to do a simple extraction. For easier removal, the tooth might be divided into smaller pieces or extracted in one piece using forceps. However, since wisdom teeth are commonly affected, a surgical extraction is generally necessary. During wisdom teeth surgery, an incision is made in the gum line to remove any bone that covers the tooth before the tooth is actually removed. You could have stitches or sutures. To stop the bleeding, you will be given a piece of gauze to bite down on. During the first several days, some bleeding and edema are normal. An ice pack will help during this first stage.

If Bramdale Dental is concerned about the placement of your wisdom teeth, it could be necessary to have them pulled in order to avoid further problems. If you have any early worries regarding your wisdom teeth, get in touch with our Brampton dentist office right now.
